Act 25: It ain't hot if it ain't sizzlin'

Their name says it all. They want to craft the culture. Crafted Culture Brewing founder Anthony “Sizzle” Perry joins Nick & Nigel for Act 25. Opening Monday, Feb. 1, Crafted Culture Brewing is set to become the first black owned brewery in Central Ohio. We talk about his struggles opening a brewery and his goal of reaching neglected craft beer consumers. There’s also lots of funny moments in this episode.

 

Transparent Brewing supplied our drinking beer — Encore Coffee Brown Ale with Lactose. Mystery beers included: Prairie OKC's 14% BBA Nigerian Prince Imperial Stout with Peanut Butter roasted coffee; Orange Lasse from Crane Brewing and Meli Kalikimaka Spiced Winter Ale from Kros Strain Brewing. We may have poured some Bourbon from FEW as well. But that could just be a rumor.

Act 24: Holy craft beer, Batman! Look what happened in 2020

2020 was quite the year. Never mind that pandemic thing — it's the year we started the BeersWithNigel podcast! In Act 24 we take a look back at some of our favorite guests, topics and beers. Nigel shares his Untappd Year in Beer results. He might have had a few last year. The man who’s always mentioned but never seen; Junior! Finally reveals himself on the pod. Nick thought was a good idea to start the show with the 12% Bourbon Barrel Quad from Boulevard Brewing. Transparent Brewing gifted us a crowler of their lovely Hidden Monster Scottish Export. Act 23: He rocks, he rolls, he ships us some bitchin' brew

It’s Act 23 of #BeersWithNigel and we've gone international again! Joining us from the UK is Stacey Ayeh, of Rock Leopard Brewing Co. in London, England. Stacey is a veteran in the alcohol biz and started Rock Leopard to give his interpretation of the beers he loves. We talk about the obstacles he faced getting into the beer business and the London beer scene. Stacey was prepared for the pod, shipping two of his beers across the pond for Nigel and Nick to sip on during the show. We had Rock Leopard’s Paper, Scissors NEIPA and Are We Human Or Are We Chancer?, a session NEIPA.

Act 22: Ain't nothin' gonna break their stride; ain't nothin' gonna slow them down — oh, no...

The Kansas City area brewery scene is growing! Especially on the east side of the city. This episode features two breweries opening in the early part of 2021. Nigel and Nick talk to Brad Steele, who’s opening Broken Hatchet Brewing, and Jeremy Kneeland, Jeff Gray, and Dave Querner, the guys behind the The Goat Brewing Company. We talk about opening a brewery during a pandemic and how they all got started. We drink beers from both breweries plus beer from Saugatuck Brewing and Sun King Brewing.

Act 21: Don't count out the Okies, the brew scene's getting Lively

Pat Lively, of Lively Brewing, joins the show. Pat is veteran brewer who started his career at COOP Brewing. Pat talks about running his own brewery, the Oklahoma craft beer scene and his role as president of the Craft Brewers Association of Oklahoma.

Nick & I "sipped" on the 12% Bless Your Heart Imperial Stout from Roughtail Brewing, while Pat imbibed on Lively Brewing’s Passion Fruit Tart. Mystery beers include Martin City’s Doughnut Stout, Salted Caramel Imperial Ale from Southern Tier and Ancient Arkana, a collaboration from Roughtail and Prairie OKC.

Act 20: So, a meteorologist walks into a bar...

Meteorologists like beer, too. In fact, this week's guest brewed a beer at Wind Shift Brewing in Blue Springs, MO. Joining us this episode is KMBC weather chief Bryan Busby. We talk about his recent adventure in brewing and learn he’s great at character voices and just a generally funny dude.

This week’s mystery beers include Slush from Prairie Artisan, Hazeus Corpus from Legal Draft and Write Drunk, Edit Sober from Fat Orange Cat Brew Co.

Act 19: The one where they cross the pond

Joining the BeersWithNigel pod is Award-winning writer, Melissa Cole. She’s one of the UK's leading beer and food experts. Melissa is an international beer judge and has brewed with some of the world's most respected breweries. I like to call her a force of nature. And she’s super funny too! We talk about how we met in London, what “hoppy’ means and other stuff!

Act 18: This guy must be a Boy Scout because dude came prepared

Alright, alright, alright... Act 18 brings president of Kansas City area home brew club ZZ Hops to the show. Brett Wooderson is an award winning home brewer, known for making some pretty crazy but balanced home-brews. Nick & I have dubbed him the most prepared guest as he had cooler of beer ready for the show; including Fairy Nectar from Cross Strain, Brownie Points from Maplewood and Ella on Holiday from Pathlight. Nick’s mystery beers: Yeah Buoy from Logboat, Firework Fight from Vanessa House and Strat Fjords from Strange Days Brewing.

Act 17: If you brew it, they will come

Episode 17 of Beers with Nigel features self proclaimed Beer Chef Rodney Beagle, brewer at 3 Halves brewing in Liberty, MO. We find out how he got into beer, his days as a gypsy brewer, what inspires his "mad scientist" beer recipes and what 3 Halves represents. We also had first car accident on the podcast. Rodney sipped on 3 Halves QBC Wheat, while Nick & I drank Boulevard's Jam Band.. Mystery beers were Absence of Light from 4 Hands, French Toast Restless Soul from Servaes and a NEIPA from Finkel & Garf.

Act 16: The real story of Tank 7... and other stuff

#BeersWithNigel Act 16 features Jeremy Danner of 4 Hands Brewing. The conversation runs the gamut as we talk beer (of course), how he got into beer. We find out he had a hand in the creation of Boulevard's Tank 7. We also get his take on diversity in the beer scene.
Nick's mystery beers include Black is Beautiful from Grains & Taps and Pillar from Alma Mader. Jeremy sipped on Incarnation from 4 Hands and Nigel drank Anthem Brewing's Always in Session IPA and Orange Creamsicle from Southern Tier.
